Service on Corporations and LLCs

If the firm or an individual lawyer is a currently listed Agent for Service of Process for a CA business entity as registered with the California Secretary of State, the Agent will accept personal service if delivered to the identified Agent. You may not leave any document that must be served on the Agent with anyone other that the designated agent. A receptionist, employee or other person is NOT authorized to accept any service. If you wish to arrange for service during normal business hours, then you may ask for the Agent, identify yourself, the entity to be served and the nature of service, summons etc., and we will advise when the Agent is available to receive service. As part of any substitute service, please use the most current mailing address or check with the CA State Bar webpage. 

Please note that although someone is an Agent for Service of Process for a CA business owner, he/she is not an agent for any other purpose. He/she is not an officer, director, owner or employee. Also, the Secretary of State's Business Portal is not a complete or certified record of any corporation and may not be accurate.
